Over Reactions?

I read an article in the Wall Street Journal that was quite amusing.
"Boozy Babies and Other Overhyped Panics" by Lenore Skenazy was an article that mentioned incidents that got blown up out of proportion in 2011. In one of the incidents, a baby was accidentally served some alcohol in Applebee's restaurant. This led to Applebee's re-training all of their staff and introducing single-served juice servings.
One child out of all of of the millions of children in the world that get apple juice was served a highly potent drink by a waiter who wasn't alert. One waiter did something wrong but the media and the parents acted as if Applebee's is serving children "platefuls of steaming plutonium".
In another incident a pedestrian was slightly injured when he was hit by a ball from a nearby child's program. In reaction the schools started outlawing physical activities and balls in the playground.
We over react to simple accidents and treat them as if they are recurring dangers. Accidents happen, and trying to make them disappear is impossible.
This article clearly reminded us that accidents do happen and stupidity can't be outlawed.
May this 2012 year be chill ! :)
