The Singer Solution to World Poverty

The prompt of my essay for the workshop talked about "The Singer Solution to World Poverty". I wont write too much in this post since I wrote an essay about it over this winter break...
Peter Singer, a professor of bioethics, believes that we should only spend on the necessities and donate what we would normally spend on luxuries to the poor countries overseas. I agree that this would be a fantastic way to end world poverty, but only if...
How do we characterize luxuries? The article was written in 1999, so many new technologies have emerged. We, for the most part, have laptops and cell phones and television sets, now we even have electronic readers! Do we give up what we use everyday? Will we be willing to? I wish I could, but honestly, I love having the technology too much, and I selfishly ignore those in need.
Please tell me you guys feel the same too! Or else I feel like an awful person.
I sent you all my essay for the workshop in advance, if you want more information on my oppinion of the article.
