Zappos

Too often, the jobs we are interested in are based around two aspects : How much will I make and how prestigious it will sound. Lawyers, doctors and business executives are always admired for the image of success that comes with being distinguished as such. I recently stumbled upon a business book from the founder of Zappos, one of the largest online shoe stores in the world. Although it was destined for middle-aged men in the business world, I found the author's short entrepreneur stories (from trying to sell worms as a kid to building an advertising website as an adult) very interesting. As I finished the book, I realized that it's underlying message was more interesting than the stories themselves. As Tony, the author, leaves college and begins to work, he understands the importance of passion in his job. Through short stories of success and failure, he exemplifies how as we choose our job, passion and interest will lead to success, not the other way around. Reading this story proved to me that if we follow what we are truly passionate about and are willing to put the necessary effort into it, success will almost always follow.
